July 2005 Los Vegas
Last Friday July 22, hubby says to me I am going to
Los Vegas for a one day convention, do you want to go & have some
fun...? I thought hey I have a couple of cool clients in Los Vegas,
maybe I can hang out with them like I did in Jan of 2005, while hubby is
working. I sent an email to Janette Beam & Jean Estrada, very talented &
cool jewelry artists, who are very good clients of mine & have always wanted to make their own beads.
Janette already had a small torch, a lot less workable than a hot head,
I will not say the name of it, but you will recognize it in the
photos...anyway I packed some glass & some tools, made plans with Jean
to pick me up on Wednesday morning at our hotel...Once we got to
Janette's house, a very pretty house by the way, photos below, we got to
talking like old friends. Mean while Gary, Janette's very talented hubby
(click here to see the great bead displays he
makes on sale on ebay) made sure we were all set up
to make beads with the small torch & mapp gas tanks. I have to
admit, I had a real hard time making beads on this torch, it was like
driving a
Maserati
for a while & then
driving a Pinto with a bad engine, nevertheless I set out to teach an
impromptu complimentary class to the ladies...however I have to say I
believe between the great company, the awesome food & the many gifts
that I was giving (see photos below), this was more like a give & take
day of good will & fun between some friends during which we made some
glass beads...

here we are from left to right, Janette, Jean,
the tall one always gets to be in the middle & me, I have no
idea why I am posing the way I am...we were having some laughs
about something & I was trying not to laugh I guess... |

Look at this gorgeous table, Janette's husband
Gary made it, so she had a great display for all her lovely
jewelry collection... |
|

Here I am the task master picking on
Jean...don't right me emails about the glasses, they know they
need to get the right ones, and they are going to do so... |
|

Here is one of the lovely bead display racks
that Gary makes, holding some of Janette's bead collection...Janette
& Gary are very generous, they gave me one of my own...the rack
come in all sizes & colors, mine is solid oak...Click

Displays... |

Jean Makes beads, yes we had some windows open
& some fans going, this studio was set up in less than a day so
we can play...so don't send me emails about where is your
ventilation or kiln...& that torch was making me nuts... |
|

Janette had put together an awesome spread of make your own
nachos, with the most yummy tasting everything...she set the
table, she fed us all kinds of goodies, Gary made this sun dried
tomato spread...it was all so good, thanks so much again... |
|

Here is a photo of a part of their pool, we
were having so much fun making beads we forgot to jump in the
pool, it would have been way too hot anyway, as lovely as that
water looks, it was over 100 outside & inside was cool, so we
made more beads & gossiped... |
|

Janette sent me this bracelet photo
last night, she made it from some of the beads we made on
Wednesday, Jean & Janette did real well, Jean took her 2 beads
with her, yes with the torch we had it was real slow going, I
think I have complained about that torch plenty by now...I think
Janette made the 4th bead in from the right, right before the
flower tab...they did real well, I may have lost a couple of
bead clients but I most certainly gained a couple great new
friends... you are the best, thanks for all the fun... |
